Eläinkapina vaatii oikeudenmukaisempaa ruoantuotantojärjestelmää / Animal Rebellion Finland calls for more justice in food production

Eläinkapina järjesti osana Ylikulutuskapinaa mielenosoituksen oikeudenmukaisemman ruuantuotannon puolesta Senaatintorilla Helsingissä torstaina 12.5.2022 klo 16-18. Nykyinen ruuantuotantojärjestelmä ei ole oikeudenmukainen. Ei luonnolle, ei ihmisille, ei tuotantoeläimille.

Globaalisti jopa 80% metsäkadosta johtuu siitä, että maatalouteen raivataan lisää maa-alaa. Metsäkato heikentää luonnon monimuotoisuutta entisestään, koska elinympäristöjen katoaminen aiheuttaa lajien häviämistä. Erityisesti eläinperäisen ruuan tuotannolla on tähän suuri vaikutus. Jos siirtyisimme Suomessa kokonaan kasvipohjaiseen ruuantuotantojärjestelmään, ruuan tuottamiseen tarvittava maa-ala vähenisi alle puoleen. Silloin emme syöttäisi eläimille ruokaa, joka kelpaisi ihmisillekin.

Eläintuotanto on myös vastuussa suurista kasvihuonekaasupäästöistä. Esimerkiksi naudanlihalla on 15-kertainen hiilijalanjälki palkokasveihin verrattuna. On arvioitu, että ihmisen aiheuttamista ilmastopäästöistä kolmannes on peräisin ruuantuotannosta - sillä on siis väliä, miten ja millaista ruokaa tuotetaan. Tuotantoeläimille tämä systeemi aiheuttaa valtavasti kärsimystä. Esimerkiksi siat eivät pääse kääntymään porsitushäkeissä ja lehmien vasikat erotetaan emoistaan pian syntymän jälkeen. Elinoloista riippumatta tuotantoeläimen elämä päättyy nuorena - Suomessa teurastetaan yli 80 miljoonaa maaeläintä vuosittain. Vaadimme, että Suomi lopettaa eläintuotannon rahoittamisen, ja tukee tuottajien siirtymistä kasvipohjaiseen ruuantuotantojärjestelmään.

Animal Rebellion Finland held a demonstration as part of the Overconsumption Rebellion on Thursday May 12, 2022, 16-18 o'clock at Senaatintori, Helsinki. Our current food production systems are neither just nor fair. Not to the nature, not to the humans, not to the farmed animals.

Up to 80% of global deforestation is caused by the clearing of more land for agricultural production. Deforestation contributes to the decline of the diversity of nature. The destruction of habitats causes loss of species. Animal-based food production plays a key role. If Finland, for example, transitioned to a fully plant-based food production system, the land area required for food production would be less than half compared to the present, and we would not be feeding farmed animals with food that is perfectly good for human consumption.

Animal-based food production also causes massive greenhouse gas emissions. The carbon footprint of beef, for example, is 15 times bigger than that of leguminous plants. It has been estimated that one third of climate emissions caused by human activity comes from food production. What food is produced and how it is produced is very important.For the production animals, the system causes enormous suffering. Pigs, for example, are unable to even turn around in their farrowing cages, and calves are separated from their mothers soon after birth – and regardless of their living conditions, the lives of production animals are short. In Finland, more than 80 million terrestrial animals are slaughtered every year. We demand that the state of Finland stop funding animal-based food production and support the adoption of a plant-based food production system instead.
